Dear friends of SemperOperaball,
In the ninth year of SemperOperaball the whole opera and the theatre square glittered just as this years motto promised “Dresden glittering – glitz and glamour at the SemperOperaball”. This time it sparkled and flashed, a silver sphere flew over and into the opera house, this time we had royal splendor with Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden and important guests from all over the world.
The concept of SemperOperaball has become an international success. The fact that we were sold out again and many inquiries from visitors from around the globe showed us that classical music entertainment works. Once more we presented our guests a high level program, combined with the entertaining and stylish moderation of Collien Ulmen-Fernandes and Gunther Emmerlich, with the Staatskapelle Dresden, the State Opera Choir, the Semperoper Ballet and soloists Sonya Yoncheva and Vladimir Galouzine.
We are proud of our high-profile laureates of the SemperOperaball’s Dresden Medal of St. George: With Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden, Catherine Deneuve, Thomas Gottschalk and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, we welcomed extraordinary guests. Another laureate was the almost 80 years old musician Udo Jürgens, who gave an unforgettable jubilee midnight concert for the opera guests as well as the SemperOpenairBall guests in front of the Opera.
It was also time to say thank you. Our warmest thanks to the best audience in the world in Dresden. Dancing and celebrating for the ninth time, thousands of guests attend every year this magnificent event in front of the Opera, no matter if it was cold, raining or snowing. We wanted to award this fabulous audience for its devotion with its own SemperOperaball’s Dresden Medal of St. George.
We look forward to seeing you again on the 10th SemperOperaball on 30th January 2015!
Overall Artistic Director and First Chairman Semper Opernball e. V.
